Heraclitus of Ephesus, a Greek philosopher back in the 6th century BC said, “The only constant is change.” Although change is something that the majority of people do not like, it truly is the only sure thing in the known universe. Another way to say it is “the only thing that will Always be the same is that Nothing will ever be the same.” Change is inevitable and sometimes I don’t like to think about that because I get so stuck in the “status quo.” I don’t like to break outside of my comfort zone and experience change because, well, that’s uncomfortable.
I do know, however; that to be truly content with things that arise in our lives, we must embrace change whole-heartedly and completely. We must learn to live life on life’s terms. This means to take it as it comes and not resist it. Deal with things as they arise for that is the only time with which we can operate or affect any change.
There has been a lot of change going on in my life lately and fortunately I can say that is has all been for the better. In just the last 4 months, I have completely restructured the fabric of my life and have never been happier doing anything else. This has truly been a journey, but I am only at the beginning of this journey called “Bryan’s Life.”
There have been so many forks in the road and so many wrong turns on my part, but they have all helped me to become the person I am today. I am extremely grateful and appreciative for all of those “bad” times in my life because they have all made me stronger. Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “That which does not destroy me, only makes me stronger.” I believe that!
I am now at another fork in my road that will affect some major changes in my life. These changes will be of a good nature. I have finally met someone who is very special to me and have really seen something special in her. Again, this is another example of the change that I was talking about. I can either run from what could be the best thing in my life for the simple reason that I am having to step into the unknown, or I can embrace it, nurture it, and allow it to blossom into a wonderful thing.
I do believe in miracles and I believe that God brings people into our lives for a reason, whether it be the next guy that you talk to in the line at the grocery store, or the love of your life that you meet in the most unusual way. What’s important is that we are open to those opportunities when they arise, for they are out there and happen every day.
Being that I believe things happen for a reason, I believe that our paths crossed to enrich each other’s lives and help each other grow. Every day that passes by, I feel more and more connected to this woman on so many levels.
Back to change… I never in a hundred years would have thought that I would be where I am at in my life right now and fortunately because of the only constant, change, I have been afforded this experience. Each day that comes and I awake on this side of the dirt, I am grateful to be alive and embrace change because it can either be one of our worst enemies, or it can be our best friend. The difference lies in how we view it. The difference Always lies in how you perceive it. How do you?
Until Next Time,
Bryan Keith Tresenriter
